Waste & Recycling

The most environmentally sustainable way to manage waste is not to generate it in the first place.

1. Think before you shop; can you buy a product with less or no packaging, will you be able to eat all the food in a multipack or on promotion? Up to 30 per cent of food bought is not eaten before it goes off. Do you consume everything that you buy? Take a look at the Love Food Hate Waste website for advice on how to avoid wasting food.
2. Don’t take a fresh carrier bag every time you go shopping. A bag for life can be re-used at no cost to the environment.
3. Sign up to the Mailing Preference Service and MyLetterBox and control the junk mail and unaddressed mail you receive.
