A group of over 30 young people are bringing a touch of Disney magic to Banbury this month when Avocet Theatre Company perform Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr!
After wowing Banbury with their summer pantomime, Jack & the Beanstalk as well as their Winter Wonderland event in partnership with Banbury Academy, Avocet Theatre Company are bringing this classic tale to Wykham Theatre, Banbury Academy. From 19th January to the 20th January, the group invites you to join them as they take you ‘Under the Sea’ and make The Little Mermaid ‘Part of Your World’.
Full of high-voltage energy and a host of well-known musical numbers, the show follows Ariel (Ava Butler), a young mermaid who dreams about life out of the ocean.
After saving the dashing Prince Eric (Camron Northcote), Ariel immediately falls in love and is convinced by the wicked Flotsam and Jetsam (Caitlin Gold and Amelie Foster) to turn to the evil sea witch Ursula (Megan Veres) for help.
With the help of Sebastian (Will Healy), Flounder (Chloe Fulford-Hewitt) and Scuttle (Cheniece White), Ariel must defy her father, King Triton (George O’Connor), whilst convincing the Prince and his larger than life manservant Grimsby (Katie Crowther) that the enchanting voice he has been seeking was hers all along.
Featuring an Academy Award winning score, the well-known songs are sure to have audiences singing along and dancing in the aisles!
“We are beyond thrilled to give the youngsters of our company a chance to shine and what better way to do it than with this wonderful Disney tale that we all know and love.
“They have blown us away with their talent and we cannot wait for audiences to see what the young people in Banbury are capable of.
“We are delighted to welcome experienced director Chrissie Garrett to the group who brings with her the energy and experience she has gained directing for many other societies such as Banbury Cross Players.
“She is joined by Debbie Coleman as choreographer and the adults of Avocet Theatre Company who are all working behind the scenes to make sure The Little Mermaid is a fantastic experience for everyone involved.”
The group has spared no expense on the production, working hard to make the show a magical event.
“The Little Mermaid Jr is perfect for introducing young children to the magic of the theatre.
“We want all audience members to learn how exciting a trip to the theatre can be and we are fully encouraging our audiences to dress up and sing along with the performers – there may even be prizes for the best fancy dress! As soon as you step into the foyer, you will feel like you’re at the depths of the sea ready to join Ariel and her friends on this magical journey.”
Avocet Theatre Company (formerly St John’s Drama Group) has taken on new and varied challenges since it’s conception to offer its members experiences not offered anywhere else in Banbury. The group is open to anyone aged 7 to 107 and promises to be unlike any other group in the area.
“We have lots of big plans to give our members a chance to be part of something truly unique.
“Looking ahead, we have lots of exciting opportunities for our members including workshops, variety shows, community events and of course our now legendary pantomimes! We also plan to be the first group in the area to create a full-length film! Anyone who wishes to join us should check out our website or follow us on Facebook. “
The Little Mermaid takes place from Friday 19th January 2018 (7.30pm) to Saturday 20th January (2.30pm & 7.30pm) at Wykham Theatre, Banbury Academy.
The show runs at 1 and half hours including an interval – perfect for young audiences!
