The Three Rs Tuition story writing competition winners

The Three Rs Tuition announce story writing competition winners.

A love of teaching inspired two sisters to set up their own tuition business in 1997. Now, celebrating their 20th year in business.

Three Rs Tuition Co owner Maureen Meredith said:

“We have always loved teaching but wanted to be self employed. In 1985, I had a sudden flash of inspiration.

I had heard so many times that education needed to return to The Three Rs. I knew that we could provide it.

Due to personal circumstances, my dream had to be put on hold for a few years.

In 1997 The Three Rs Tuition was launched. At the time, quite a few people commented that it would not work and it wouldn’t last!”

Three Rs Tuition Co owner Gill Meredith said:

“I knew that it was going to be an excellent business and the chance to change children’s lives. I have loved every moment of it and it has been so rewarding. Only the other day, we met one of our very early clients who came up to us and wanted us to know what a great impact we had made on her children’s lives.”

To celebrate their 20 years in business and keeping with their strong values of improving literacy, a competition was formed to seek out local children story writers.

The winners:

Group 7 – 10 years – lst Archie Lannigan, 2nd Joshua Kennard, 3rd Elizabeth Denton.

Group 11 – 14 years – lst Peter Thompson, 2nd Deepa James, 3rd Charlie Waite.

The winners all received book tokens from Waterstones with varying degrees of monetary value.

Gill said:

“We really enjoyed reading the stories. It was a great way to celebrate 20 years in business.”

Maureen added:

“It was very exciting to organise the competition. Encouraging children to read for pleasure and using their imagination to write stories is very important.”
