On the 11th September the heart of Banbury became alive with music, performers, thousands of people and a variety of aromas from local vendors cooking street food. Stall holders were so overwhelmed by the success of the first Banbury night market that many food stall holders sold out before the end.

Resident Michael Dale said

“The turnout was immense! Perfect weather for it. Mild and dry. The mix of stalls was great, and that magician was amazing! Though my friend was more taken by the fire spinning contortionist!

A few people told me they thought it would be bigger, but I think it was wonderful!

Please tell me it’s here to stay. I’m sure the stall holders will be happy, though I guess for them these things are always the luck of the draw as far as turnout is concerned.”

Vendor Catriona Smillie said,

“Smillies Cakes N Pops were thrilled to have been invited to have a stall and despite a very busy week with Birthdays and Weddings we still managed to bake 250 fresh cupcakes and were stunned when we had almost sold out just an hour and a half into the 4 hour evening.

The atmosphere was lovely and children’s faces were delightful we were situated right next to the Bar and String Quartet and everyone was chilling and relaxed. We, as were the organisers and other stall holders overwhelmed by the huge turnout and are very much looking forward to future ones and will be baking more to satisfy the demand.”

Suzette “TheDuchess” Neptune the brainchild behind the event from Banbury Presents gave thanks to all the supportive, energetic and enthusiastic local people, artists, performers, traders for their huge effort in making The Night Market happen.

“Without the superb super team of Neil Wild & Iain Nicholson (Banbury Town Team), Tim T-d, Marta KÄ™pska (Visit Banbury) and of course my own team at Banbury Presents, Lucy Paxton & Paul Austin, the event would not have taken off at all, let alone have been such a huge success.

Thanks to the local sponsors and caring supporters who also donated their time, goods, services and funds to underpin the costs of running the event: to the wonderful Ann Sewell & Alison Aydin at Banbury Town Council, Your Letterbox, Union Menswear, Flashop Ltd, Wild Properties, and Cherwell District Council.

To all the local traders, artists, craftspeople, community leaders, and performers, I say this: without your openness, determination, and commitment to making this event be a success NONE of it would have happened. I salute you and your love of this town, your caring nature and your desire to develop our town. What we can achieve together is extraordinary.”
