Job Vacancy for a Senior Manager – Development Management.

  • Ref DM0001
  • Up to £62,000 per annum
  • Plus benefits

The Job:

A new, exciting opportunity has arisen to be responsible for the strategic and operational management of a newly approved joint development management service between Cherwell District and South Northamptonshire Councils.

The areas are facing high levels of growth and the Councils have ambitious plans for the future. Both districts have adopted Local Plans and are seeing historic levels of housing delivery and employment growth.

The two Districts include iconic venues such as Silverstone circuit, Bicester Village, four market towns and current and former military bases all of which are growing in different ways.

The two Districts form part of the emerging Oxford to Cambridge Corridor and have a great track record of supporting innovative housing schemes, (including developing the largest self-build housing site in the country), urban renewal and a sensitivity to historic character as new places are forged.

Being the Councils’ most senior Chartered Town Planner you will be passionate about high quality development and provide exemplary planning advice, playing a positive and active role in the development of the two Districts and thereby maintaining public confidence in the planning system.

This job is pivotal to the success of the new shared service and will ensure that planning and enforcement decisions are made with the utmost integrity.

The Person:

We are looking for a positive and pro-active person who has:

  • a degree qualification in Planning
  • corporate membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute
  • significant post qualification experience in Development Management
  • excellent communication skills with experience of presenting reports to a large audience
  • an understanding and ability to work in a political environment, skilled in understanding members’ roles, as well as how to engage and influence them
  • first-class negotiation skills
  • experience of leading a diverse professional team, who values the input of individuals and is committed to their development and progression
  • a desire to protect the quality of the environment.

The Councils:

Both Councils are exceptional places to live and work in. We are successful, commercially minded and forward thinking. In contrast to many, we have a strong financial base which means we have the capacity and the resources to make things happen.

The Benefits:

Flexible working, generous annual leave, childcare voucher scheme and Local Government Pension

Closing date: 1 August 2017
Interview date: 8 August 2017
