You will be aware of the comments by your colleague Anne Marie Moss, Member of Parliament for Newton Abbot.
She was recorded as saying, during a discussion on Brexit, “Now we get to the real nigger in the woodpile, which is in two years what happens if there is no deal.”
I do not think I need to go over the history of the word highlighted in bold and why it is totally unacceptable. That an elected Member of Parliament has used this term, is appalling.
You will of course be aware that she has been suspended from the Conservative Party and had the whip withdrawn pending investigation.
Yet her apology, upon these comments coming to light, further damns her as she has apologised for the “offence caused” not for the act itself.
I can think of no justification for this act. For her to be ignorant of how this word might cause offence or so callous as to not care frankly reveals her to be unfit for office.
Can you clarify if you agree with me that Mrs Moss’s comments were of such grave offence as to warrant her permanent expulsion from the Conservative & Unionist Party?
I very much look forward to receiving your response.
Councillor Sean Woodcock
Labour Parliamentary Candidate for Banbury & Bicester Constituency 2015 & 2017
