Heavenly food delights HUGE crowds at Banbury Food Fair.

Banbury Food Fair was a mouth-watering experience for the thousands of visitors who packed into the town’s market place where more than a hundred stalls provided tastes and flavours from around the world.

Hot and cold food and drink was available in many styles – including English, Thai, Caribbean, Italian, Spanish, Indian and others.

Alfresco Sunday lunches were popular with men, women and children of all ages – and top TV chefs were on hand to give cooking demonstrations, kindly sponsored by Buywise, that put new ideas into family eating.

Demonstration to an overflowing Town Hall restaurateur Jean-Christophe Novelli, who specialises in French-style Mediterranean food, was top of the bill and was joined by Andrew Scott and Nick Bennett from television’s Masterchef The Professionals.

Anita Chipalkatty, who teaches Indian-style cookery, showed how to prepare her favourite foods.

Banbury’s Flower and Produce Show ran alongside the food fair and gardeners, cooks, and flower arrangers were able to showcase their fruit, vegetables, blooms, jams, cakes and other items.

Crafters and children had their own categories and this year a new photography section was introduced.

The entries went on public display after the judging – and the show marquee was packed with admirers.

The Flower and Produce Show was sponsored by former Banbury mayor, councillor and businesswoman Rosemarie Higham.

A free park and ride between Cherwell District Council’s offices in Bodicote and the town’s bus station provided hassle-free travel into the town centre.

Cllr Colin Clarke, chairman of the council’s general services committee, said afterwards:

“We have just enjoyed a superb event that has once again been a marvellous day out for the people of Banbury and the surrounding villages. “The food fair continues to grow and the park and ride provided some relief for the town’s overloaded car parks. “Like all our events, the food fair attracts thousands of people to the town centre and is good for trade generally.”

Mrs Higham said:

“I look forward to the Flower and Produce Show every year and I am never disappointed. It is a pleasure seeing many returning exhibitors each year. This year the standard of entries was, once again, extremely high and entrants can be proud of what they produced.”
