Preparations are under way for the October half term recreation and sports hubs, on the back of their most successful season yet.
Cherwell District Council hosts the hubs as a cost-effective way of keeping children happy, safe and active over school breaks, and they have now become a fixture in the lives of many of the district’s young people.
Next-month’s half term hubs will be run at North Oxfordshire Academy in Banbury and Cooper School in Bicester, from Monday 24 to Friday 28 October. Offering sports, games, arts and crafts for five to 15-year-olds, they are a great way for youngsters to make new friends.
“I am delighted that the summer hubs were such a success, with record attendances and an exciting range of guest activities including fencing, trampolines and archery.
“Our officers are now hard at work planning an entertaining and varied programme of activities for half term, with everything from swimming to painting and table tennis on the cards.
“We do expect a capacity attendance over the half term, not least because the hubs are a great solution for parents who are out at work. I will be advising people to book their children onto the hubs at the earliest opportunity to avoid disappointment.”
The summer hubs had over two and a half thousand attendances across the district, with 1,126 at Cooper School, 804 at North Oxfordshire Academy and 762 at the Warriner. The unprecedented take-up saw Cherwell hire extra staff in order to offer additional places and keep up with demand.
All the sessions are led by DBS (formerly CRB) checked staff. Lunch breaks are supervised but not catered for.
The October half term hubs will offer short day sessions from 8.45am until 3pm costing £14.95, and full days from 8.45am till 5pm costing £18.95. That means it costs just over £2.25 per hour to send a child to the hubs.
Booking lines will be open from Monday, 3rd October 2016.
