As soon as January rolls around each year and the post Christmas slump hits, it seems like everywhere you look there’s a new fitness craze being touted as the new cure all miracle.
Fitness centres across the country have an absolute field day as they start a price war to get their hands on some new customers, While the lycra-clad personal trainers might cash in on the chances of more than a few of us carrying a couple of extra mince pie pounds, it’s us mere mortals who really reap the most benefits from starting the New Year with our best foot forward.
We all know that we should take care of ourselves all year round but each January the allure of a clean slate makes us feel as though we can take on the world. This is probably why January is the most popular month to join a gym, when the excess of Christmas has taken its toll but the fresh start promised by a brand new calendar gives us a new lease of life.
Getting fit has so many health benefits that are especially vital in the winter months. Increased endorphins are the perfect antidote to the most miserable of days and there’s no better time to have an increased immune system than the dreary winter months.
