North Oxfordshire’s Food, Folk & Farming Festival, HanFEST set to welcome record numbers this weekend.

The perfect combination of local quality food and drink, modern and traditional folk music and a celebration of all things farming comes together for another summer HanFEST this Saturday (14 July) in the historic Cotswold ironstone village of Hanwell near Banbury, Oxfordshire.

The outdoor festival promises to be a great day out for the whole family, opening from 11am to 5pm with nearby car parking. Packed full of tasty produce to eat and drink, art, crafts and farm animals to see, archery and games to play and live folk music on stage to listen to throughout the day.

Enjoy all of your senses!

As usual there will be an array of wonderful stall holders offering a large variety of local quality produce from specialty teas and granary oils, artisan pickles to locally made cider and yogurt and mouth-watering brownies.

New this year, HanFEST Food, Folk & Farming Festival will be welcoming Appletree Farm’s milk & yogurt, Napton Cidery’s local cider, gin from the Foxdenton Estate and pies, pasties, sausage rolls and scotch eggs from The Pie Creator.

The following Cotswold food and drink producers will be returning to HanFEST; The Little Pickle, Church Hanbrewery, Granary Oils Company and Sherston Tea Company.

Make a day of it and enjoy a locally sourced lunch or afternoon tea with plenty of scrumptious food on offer from hog roast filled burgers to pulled beef brisket brioche rolls, super cool Marshfield ice creams to made-in-Hanwell cakes and refreshing teas.

See the Cotswold Alpacas and the friendly sheep from the Hart family Hanwell Farm and have a go on Mr McNally’s famous Hanwell pony and trap.

HanFEST promises to entertain with a back to back line-up of folk music on stage.

Performing on Saturday from 11:15am; The Peas, Away with the Fairies, Scarecrow, Talis Kimberley, Henderson:Hooper and Fraser & Toots.

Headlining this year’s HanFEST is a band that has been described by Songlines magazine as a “Welsh supergroup”, ALAW is three leading musicians who bring a wealth of experience to a shared passion – the traditional music of Wales.

Their powerful song writing and original tunes, this makes for a musical experience that will stay with the listener long after HanFEST ends.

Their latest album has been nominated for a BBC Folk Award and their summer concerts include an appearance at the BBC Proms in the Albert Hall and of course a visit to Hanwell.

  • Tickets for the evening includes a barbecue meal: adults £12, children £6.
  • Tickets for the daytime festival are just £2 for adults and £1 for children.

All tickets can be purchased online at www.hanfest.co.uk or on the gate on the day.

Dogs on leads are welcome with their owners.

This year HanFEST will be raising funds for the cancer charity – Maggie’s Oxford. Maggie’s offers professional support to people with cancer and their loved ones. Since HanFest started in 2015 it has raised over £1,800 for charities and good causes.

Nick Boaz from Team HanFEST said:

“The atmosphere in the village is building, the handmade signs are up and the hay bales and stage are due to arrive! It’s great to see the village coming together and inviting everyone to join us for a naturally fun time while helping to raise funds Maggie’s Oxford”.

HanFEST is a non-profit community event, held twice a year in Hanwell village, Oxfordshire.

The event is organised by a group of residents living in the village. The aim of HanFEST is to create fun and memorable moments. HanFEST takes place in the summer and its sister Christmas event HanFESTIVE takes place late November inside St Peter’s Church.
