HanFest crowd enjoying themselves

Record numbers had a very warm welcome to Oxfordshire’s Food, Folk & Farming Festival – HanFEST.

*With the perfect combination of local quality food and drink, modern and traditional folk music and a celebration of all things farming; hundreds visited last weekend’s HanFEST in Hanwell near Banbury. *

HanFEST promised to be a great day out for the whole family and it was; packed full of tasty local produce to eat and drink, art, crafts and farm animals to see, archery and games to play and live folk music on stage to listen to throughout the day. Hundreds visited from as far away as Northampton, to Cheltenham and everywhere in between.

There was a wonderful array of stall holders offering a large variety of local quality produce from specialty teas and granary oils, artisan pickles to locally made cider and yogurt and mouth-watering brownies. New this year to HanFEST was Appletree Farm’s milk & yogurt, Napton Cidery’s local cider, gin from the Foxdenton Estate and many more. The following Cotswold food and drink producers returned to HanFEST; Church Hanbrewery, Granary Oils Company and Sherston Tea Company to name a few.

HanFEST promised to entertain with a back to back line-up of folk music on stage and it did just that

Comments from some of the visitors to HanFEST;

“We wish our village had something as good as this!”

Resident in Farthinghoe

“Everything was so beautiful and so incredibly well organised that I felt very proud of our village”

Resident in Hanwell

“We would normally go to Bodfest but we fancied something different this year and HanFEST did the job!”

Resident in Hook Norton

“HanFEST is in our top 3 events to attend”

Church Hanbrewery

HanFEST promised to entertain with a back to back line-up of folk music on stage and it did just that with; The Peas, Away with the Fairies, Scarecrow, Talis Kimberley, Henderson:Hooper and Fraser & Toots performing.

The Folk Night continued to impress visitors, with Jaywalkers and welsh folk group Alaw performing into the sunset, firmly making HanFEST a firm favorite event for those who love live music.

This year HanFEST helped raise funds for the cancer charity – Maggie’s Oxford.

Maggie’s offers professional support to people with cancer and their loved ones. Visitors to HanFEST helped raise £479.62. Since HanFest started in 2015 it has raised over £2,465 for charities and good causes.

Chris Brant from Team HanFEST said:

“The atmosphere in the village was electric! It was great to see the village coming together and inviting everyone to join in from Hook Norton to Northampton for a naturally fun time, while helping to raise funds Maggie’s Oxford”.

HanFEST is a non-profit community event, held twice a year in Hanwell, Oxfordshire.

The event is organised by a group of residents living in the village. The aim of HanFEST is to create fun and memorable moments. HanFEST takes place in the summer and its sister Christmas event HanFESTIVE takes place late November inside St Peter’s Church.
