Written by Michele Mcdonnell in 2013.
Where did you go to my baby,
How did you grow so fast.
Why are the years disappearing,
In a blink yesterday’s in the past.
There’s a lump in my throat in the small hours,
And I’m trying to hold it all in,
But I can’t sleep for thoughts of the morning,
When your own independence kicks in.
I know that you’re brave and you’re ready,
For the path you’re about to step on,
But please look out and be careful,
Watch your footing and always be strong.
Even as I’m watching you changing,
So quickly and before my eyes,
When I look at the girl you’re becoming,
I still see my baby inside.
You know that I’m being neurotic,
But I’m scared, so just humor me,
Always come home on time, let me know where you are,
And I promise to try setting you free.
It will always be my job to protect you,
Thats something you’ll never have to ask,
Cos like it or not, I’m forever your mum,
Even as the future swallows the past.
