Oxford United players lend support to football camps

District youngsters can improve headers and one-twos with Oxford United players at a series of football camps this summer.

Cherwell District Council has got onside with the U’s to host the events at North Oxfordshire Academy in Banbury and The Cooper School in Bicester.

Following successful try-outs last year and this April, the camps are back and, as previously, children who book onto a full, week-long camp can claim a family ticket to see the league one outfit in action at the Kassam Stadium at no extra cost.

Cllr George Reynolds, Cherwell’s deputy leader, said:

“I am very pleased to support the return of these camps following their successful trial last summer. They are a great way for five to 13-year-olds to develop their skills and fitness, and I have no doubt that the presence of professional players will inspire them to enjoy the beautiful game even more.

“These sessions are about fun as much as they are about competition and they are open to both girls and boys. They are a cost-effective way of keeping young people active over the school holidays and we are expecting a high uptake, not least because of the home nations’ strong performances at the European Championships.”

The camps will be led by FA-qualified coaches and are open to boys and girls aged between five and 13 of any ability or fitness levels. Each day a player from the first team will visit the camp to meet the young players and offer expert training.

The camps run at North Oxfordshire Academy from 25 to 29 July and from 15 to 19 August and at the Cooper School from 1 to 5 August and from 22 to 26 August. Parents can book their children into the camps either for a single day, for £20 or for a whole week for £65.

Places are limited and must be booked in advance by calling 01865 337525 or by emailing .
