Cast: Brie Larson (21 Jump Street, Short Term 12, Trainwreck), Jacob Tremblay (The Smurfs 2, Gord’s Brother, Before I Wake), Sean Bridges (Sweet Home Alabama, The Woman, Jug Face), Joan Allen (Face/Off, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Supremacy), William H.Macy (Fargo, Shameless, Jurassic Park III), Tom McCamus (The Sweet Hereafter, I Love a Man in Uniform)
A young boy, Jack (Jacob Tremblay), is raised in a small shed with his Ma (Brie Larson). When he finally escapes from their captor he is able to see the word for the first time.
When the world is a small room with four walls you would think that not much can happen, but that’s wrong. Room enables the world to seem so big and a single room seem the size of the entire world. The room that Jack and Ma are held for the first hour of the film does actually feel like the entire world, because to Jack it is.
Room isn’t about what it first seems, its isn’t a film about a woman being kept in a mans shed for seven years. It is about a boy seeing the world for the first time. We see the world with Jack, a world that we take as normality to Jack is new. The film shows how a single room is the entire world, and how the actual world is the same size.
Brie Larson gives a performance which worthy of the Oscar she received with it, but isn’t just her who gives a fantastic performance. Jacob Tremblay is the star of the film, he is amazing in his role, his character is utterly convincing and makes you engaged throughout.
This is a film that everybody has to see now. It will blow you away, you just have to sit and think for a minute after the film has finished. This film is one that has to be considered outstanding.
