Repeat offences of flytipping becoming rubbish problem.

Cherwell District Council has received a series of complaints about waste left at a recycling bank on the Cassington Road in Yarnton, adjacent to the Red Lion car park; and on a road running through farmland near Oddington.

A local business is suspected of flytipping in Yarnton, where bags of waste are being dumped ten at a time at regular intervals.

Cllr Debbie Pickford, Cherwell’s lead member for clean and green, said:

“I am shocked and disappointed by the repeat offences being committed at both these sites.

“Our bring bank sites are not the place to dispose of unsorted waste. The flytipping in Yarnton is a health and safety hazard to members of the public who are going out of their way to help the environment by recycling.

“No district business should be illegally disposing of its rubbish. All businesses are required by law to have a waste disposal plan in place.”

Officials are appealing for witnesses to anyone dismantling a motor vehicle at the Oddington site, where council officers discovered blue car doors and packaging for a freezer, which they believe may lead them to the suspects.

Cllr Pickford continued:

“I was dismayed to learn that large car parts are being left at the side of the road to Oddington, another site of repeat offending. Flytipping is a waste of the time and energy of busy council staff, and of the hard-earned taxes of innocent district residents.

“I would urge anyone who regularly visits the Red Lion and the recycling centre in Yarnton, and anyone who has witnessed suspicious activity on the road from Islip to Oddington, to come forward and help us make the flytippers pay the price for their misdemeanours.”

Anyone with information about flytipping should contact Cherwell District Council on 01295 227007. Calls will be treated in confidence.
