Year’s first job fair attracts large turnout

Hundreds of vacancies were on offer to jobseekers at the council’s first 2016 job fair, in Banbury.

On Tuesday, 23 February employers and agencies hosted stalls in Banbury Town Hall to promote their vacancies. The event attracted 170 jobseekers keen to find out about the opportunities on offer.

Cllr Norman Bolster, Cherwell’s lead member for estates and economy, said:

“Our job fairs have always proved popular with both companies and potential recruits. Judging by the numbers who came along today, that trend will continue through 2016. The job fairs are always great opportunity for businesses to advertise vacancies to their target market while for individuals it is chance to meet employers in advance of a possible interview in a relaxed and informal setting.

“And if anyone missed this job fair there’s no need to worry – there will be another fair in March, this time in Bicester.”

Cherwell District Council’s job fairs are not just for people who are unemployed – they can help people who are looking to make a return to work after a break or those looking to take on a new career challenge.

The job fairs are free for businesses to attend and feature opportunities across a range of industries including retail, security and office positions. Employers are required to book stands in advance but jobseekers can simply turn up on the day.

The next job fair takes place on Wednesday 30 March from 10.30am to 2pm at the John Paul Centre in Bicester. For more information or to book a stand call 01295 221863 or email
