Thousands of shoppers and visitors packed Banbury’s old town streets on Saturday for a spring party that had food, drink, music and entertainment for all tastes.
Organised by Banbury Town Council, the event showcased the independent stores, pubs and restaurants in some of the streets that were the town’s main shopping area before the Castle Quay Centre and out-of-town retail parks.
The theme of the party was The Queen’s 90th birthday and traders entered into the spirit of the day by dressing in an assortment of royal costumes.
“Parson’s Street and Church Lane really came alive. Older residents can remember the days when these streets bustled with shoppers every day of the week.
“Days like this are a pleasant reminder of days gone by and it’s great that that old town parties are now regular features of Banbury’s calendar.”
“Absolutely glorious Spring Old Town Party with wonderful music on the White Lion Stage, brought to you by Planet Neptune by the kind invitation of Banbury Town Council and the Old Town Association. And supported by One Man Band.
“We played through a magical day of May sunshine and chased away the showers to bring a soundscape of folk, blues and country loveliness.
“Thanks to all the wonderful people of Banbury, the talented musicians and performers, the old town traders and Ann Sewell and her brilliant BTC team. What a great day!
” Big thanks also to our performers; Leatherat Acoustic. The Next Hot Thing. Caroline Walsham. Barney Newman. Blue Watson. Stevie Matt. George Huxtable.”
“Events like the Old Town Party is what being a core part of the community is all about. Our thanks go to all those who have came out in support of this wonderful event, with thanks also to Banbury Town Council and the Old Town Association for inviting us along.”
Tom and Rebecca Sowler who officially took over Lucha Burrito at 70 High Banbury High Street at the beginning of November 2015.
“We wanted to get involved and feel the heartbeat of the Old Town. We’re still relatively new so this gives us a different opportunity to mingle with the community.”
“The Old Town Party offers people a unique shopping atmosphere, and a gentle reminder to wander the streets, walks and lanes of Banbury’s Old Town for its unique independent traders.
“It has been a fabulous day as always to see so many people enjoying that experience”.
