For wreath-laying - Remembrance Day on Sunday .

Banbury’s Remembrance Day on Sunday paid tribute to the service men and women who died in two world wars and later conflicts.

Onlookers applauded as a military and civic procession marched from Broad Street to St Mary’s Church for a memorial mass.

More than 350 men, women and children took part in the parade and packed into the church.

After the service, more people paid their respects to the fallen at a wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial in People’s Park.

Over 50 wreaths were placed around the cenotaph.

The town’s Remembrance Sundays are organised by Banbury Town Council and the Royal British Legion (Banbury).

President of the Royal British Legion’s Banbury branch Kieron Mallon said:

“Remembrance Sundays are very special occasions and mean a great deal to the families of those who went to war but did not come home.”

Chairman of the legion’s Banbury branch Chris Smithson added:

“I am always proud to be part of Remembrance Day. The whole town comes together to ensure that the sacrifices of those who served are never forgotten.”
