Banbury & Bicester Labour CLP is setting up a stall from 09.30am until 2pm on Saturday 6th February in Sheep Street, Bicester to continue its protest against the cuts to Adult Social Care and Children’s Services. The Labour Party supports the current campaigns to keep Children’s Centres and Adult Day Centres open amongst other key public services in Bicester and the rest of North Oxfordshire, essential to a growing population.
The protest will be joined by the Save Oxfordshire’s Children’s Centres to collect more pledges as part of their campaign.
“Last Tuesday, Oxfordshire County Council’s Tory Cabinet agreed £69M cuts to council services over the next 4 years, on top of the £292M already agreed, in response to its own Government’s iniquitous local government settlement in December. Targets for so-called ‘savings’ include closing the Children’s Centres and Adult Day Centres in Banbury, Bicester and across North Oxfordshire.”
The final decision is due to be made by the County Council on the 16th February.
“Ultimately, these measures will adversely affect families and carers already struggling with the cuts made to date. Banbury & Bicester Labour CLP believes the whole cuts agenda is fundamentally flawed and unnecessary. The impact of what is proposed will simply increase the pressure on, and costs for, other public agencies – police, NHS Trusts and GPs – as well as a voluntary sector which itself is under pressure.”
