Bicester’s housing and commercial development topped £150 million during the 2014/ 2015 year according to the latest figures released by Cherwell District Council.
At a meeting of the town’s Strategic Delivery Board last week, Cherwell officers updated attendees on the total amount of property-led investment during 2014/ 2015.
Over a 12 month period, 450 homes worth an estimated £125 million were completed in the town alongside 11,000 square metres of commercial floorspace with an estimated value of £25.2 million.
“Over a 20 year period up until 2031, Bicester’s proposed housing growth has an estimated value of £2.5 billion which is expected to be supported by approximately £750 million of infrastructure investment. We are beginning to see those predictions becoming a reality with £150 million invested in the town during the 2014/ 2015 year.
“As time goes on the rate of inward investment being put into Bicester will gather momentum as more sites are brought forward for development. It is important to remember that while housing does form part of Bicester’s growth, it will be delivered alongside the jobs, infrastructure and facilities that will make the town a great place to live, work and play both now and in the future.”
Between 2011 and 2031, Cherwell’s adopted Local Plan has proposed 10,129 new homes in Bicester at sites including Graven Hill, North West Bicester, South East Bicester and South West Bicester, known as Kingsmere.
The plan also proposes 138.5 hectares of employment land across the site including Bicester Business Park, Bicester Gateway, part of South East Bicester, North West Bicester and Graven Hill.
The Bicester Strategic Delivery Board meets every quarter. It comprises representatives from key stakeholder bodies including Cherwell District, Bicester Town and Oxfordshire County Council who are tasked with jointly steering the successful development of the town.
