Gardeners can reap the rewards of recycling at a series of events hosted by Cherwell District Council this May.
The council is holding free compost giveaways to promote its food and garden waste recycling service. People will be able to take home a share of compost made from their own brown bin contents, while stocks last.
The events will be taking place in Kidlington, Bicester and Banbury. Friendly staff will be on hand to answer questions about waste and recycling services. Free kitchen caddies and caddy liners will also be on offer.
“People’s flowers, fruit and veg can flourish this summer with the right nutrients, and our compost giveaways are a great chance for them to achieve just that.
“Everything we collect via the brown bin service is taken to a composting site at Ardley. It’s broken down at high temperatures and in just a couple of months is ready to be used on farmers’ fields, promoting healthy soil and sustainability in the food industry.
“It will be exciting to see people take a little bit of this home with them and see the benefits of composting in their own gardens.”
The compost being given away at the events will be loose, so attendees will need to bring their own bags or containers and means of transporting it.
All three compost giveaways run from 8am to 1pm and are first come, first served.
