Immersive theatre in a unique location, Banbury's Woodgreen Swimming Pool.

Interactive theatre extravaganza.

Following performances in the decommissioned nuclear bunker under Banbury Town Hall and in parks and new build housing estates across Cherwell in 2019, Banbury’s Cherwell Theatre Company return in April with a group of young theatre makers for an interactive theatre extravaganza in another unusual location, Banbury’s Woodgreen Leisure Centre.

The company will present “The Changing Room” by Chris Bush over the Easter holidays, with rehearsals scheduled from April 6-10 and a series of free performances at Woodgreen Leisure Centre on Saturday 18 April.

Set in and around a swimming pool, “The Changing Room” follows a group of teenagers full of excitement, impatience and uncertainty. They know change is coming, but not what i’ll look like. This hilarious yet thought provoking production explores transition and the onset of adolescence and is presented in partnership with North Oxfordshire Music Service choirs and and Vibes Fitness and Cheer.

CTC’s outreach co-ordinator Sophie Beckinsale said;

“We’re delighted to present another accessible and unique opportunity for young people in Banbury this Easter”

“Participants aged 10+ will work with professional directors, music and movement specialists over a week at Banbury College to bring this exciting production to life, with opportunities to perform or take on technical theatre roles. The workshop costs just £50 and as always, bursary places are available to those who need them to take part.”

Beckinsale has also been working with facilitator Diana Christie to engage year 6 pupils in local primary schools, exploring the themes of transition through drama:

Christie said;

“The young people we worked with at Dashwood Banbury Academy recently were honest, open and supportive of each other’s varying views. There were some really touching moments that came through in their drama work and I’m looking forward to working with many more year 6s over the course of the project”.

Set in and around a swimming pool, "The Changing Room" follows a group of teenagers full of excitement, impatience and uncertainty.

Annelise Gooch, Assistant Principal at Dashwood commented;

“Year 6 were delighted to take part in theatre workshops with CTC. The session included activities for pupils introducing themselves calmly and with confidence when they meet new people and getting to know new people through three simple steps – to listen, to focus and to concentrate.”

The performances themselves will take place on April 18 from 7pm. Tickets are free but donations are welcome. Booking is essential as the audience will be guided around the centre and outdoor pool in small groups.

For information on how to take part, or to book your tickets, email the company at .

This project has been made possible due to generous support from Cherwell District Council, Legacy Leisure and the Charities Aid Foundation.
