The second annual Flywheel festival takes place at Bicester Heritage on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July 2016.
The British legend, who won 212 of the 527 races he entered between 1948 and 1962, attends with his wife Susie and will be signing autographs for festival goers throughout the weekend, as well as being reunited with a number of his race winning cars.
“Susie and I are thrilled to be making our first visit to Flywheel. It should be an action packed weekend, full of fun for all the family. We look forward to seeing you there!”
Joining Stirling at Flywheel will be the Lotus 18 in which he won the 1961 Monaco Grand Prix. Widely regarded as one of the best Formula 1 races of all time, Moss held off the much more powerful Ferraris of Hill and Ginther, maintaining qualifying pace for the full race distance to claim victory by a matter of seconds. The Lotus 18 is now actively campaigned by its current owner and has been restored to the 1961 Monaco GP specification.
Stirling’s 1952 Reims Grand Prix winning Jaguar C type, the first ever disc braked car to take race victory, will also be running on the demonstration track for the crowds at Flywheel. Helping to make disc brakes the universal technology they are today, the XKC 005 saw Stirling take the win on an incredibly hot and competitive day, in which he almost collapsed from the intense exhaustion after taking the chequered flag.
Hosted at Bicester Heritage, Britain’s best preserved Second World War bomber station, Flywheel offers visitors the chance to witness a vast array of historic cars and bikes in action on the specially designed demonstration circuit, as well as enjoying spectacular flying displays from iconic vintage aircraft and a live tank display arena. Flywheel is complemented by a traditional funfair, vintage trade fair and live music entertainment, making it the perfect day out for the entire family.
