Tadmarton residents will be having their say on a series of possible changes to the village’s conservation area as part of an appraisal being launched next week.
Cherwell District Council is proposing extensions to the existing conservation area in Upper Tadmarton, and a new character area in Lower Tadmarton. The draft appraisal also proposes buildings for inclusion on the list of local heritage assets. Members of the public can find out more at an exhibition and public meeting on 15 December.
The conservation area appraisal aims to protect and improve the special and historic character of the village by identifying parts of the settlement that can be preserved and enhanced through the planning process.
Cllr Colin Clarke, Cherwell’s lead member for planning, said:
“Upper and Lower Tadmarton lie in an area rich with archaeological heritage, including surviving remains from the Iron Age and Roman periods.
“The settlement is full of historic structures, including stone cottages, that contribute to the character and heritage of the area, and with this review we are acknowledging the importance of such features to residents, and asking for their views on our ideas for how we can continue to protect them.
“The proposal to extend the conservation area to Lower Tadmarton is a particularly significant one. It has a distinctive, enclosed character of its own, and we are very keen to hear people’s views on the guidance that should be in place regarding any future proposed developments there.”
The exhibition will be open between 4.00pm and 6.30pm and the public meeting will take place between 7.00pm and 8.30pm Thursday, 15 December. The venue is Tadmarton Village Hall.
