Alfresco lunches at Taste Of Spring in Banbury

Shoppers galore at Banbury Taste of Spring food festival.

If there is any truth in the saying ‘a bit of what you fancy does you good’ there were plenty of happy people in Banbury on Sunday.

Shoppers at the Taste of Spring food festival in Market Place were thrilled by the variety and quality of the eats and drinks on offer – and went home with bags full of goodies.

Business was brisk as specialist traders provided visitors with the delights of independently-produced food and drink.

Picnic-style lunches were the order of the day as families made the most of the warmer weather.

Organised by Banbury Town Council, the festival ran from 10.30am until 4.30pm.

The event was intended to whet people’s appetites ahead of the town’s main food fair in August when more than 120 stalls will offer tastes and treats from this country and from around the world.

The council’s events manager Ann Sewell said:

“Sunday was an opportunity for shoppers to taste and take home produce that isn’t generally available in everyday shops.

“In August there will be many more stalls and even more choice.”

Mrs Sewell added:

“The Taste of Spring event is one of two new days out that have been added to the council’s annual programme.

“A music festival in July is another, and this year we will also see the return of Town Mayor’s Sunday and Bark in the Park.”

Diane Kenny of First We Eat commented:

“The taste of spring festival was very successful. People were impressed with the range of food on offer.
From a personal point of view we had great feedback to our cakes in particular and brought very little home! We are looking forward to August.”
