Recycling Roadshow coming to Kidlington.

The summer surge in electronics recycling comes to Kidlington this Saturday as the council’s green team makes the second stop on its roadshow tour.

The event is a chance to recycle electronic devices and take advantage of special deals provided by Cherwell District Council’s green team. It takes place at Exeter Hall on 13 August and runs from 9am to 1pm.

Residents can hand over unwanted electronics, from personal stereos to washing machines, and the team will take them away to be dismantled and recycled free of charge.

Cllr Debbie Pickford, lead member for clean and green, said:

“These roadshows are an excellent way to spread the message that electronics are just as recyclable as paper and plastic bottles.

“Approximately forty per cent of the electronics we buy every year in the UK gets sent to landfill, despite the fact that they are full of valuable and salvageable materials. I want to see Cherwell lead the way in tackling that waste, which is why I support these roadshows.

“Last month’s Banbury roadshow attracted 350 attendees, which shows how much enthusiasm there is in the district for protecting the environment. I hope lots of Kidlington residents will take up this chance to give their old devices, large or small, a new lease of life.”

The council routinely collects smaller electronics with its weekly kerbside collections, but these roadshows are a chance to recycle large devices without having to travel too far. Residents can also recycle large electronics through Cherwell’s bulky waste service.

The event also features discounts on recycling bins. Attendees will be able to buy blue and brown bins for the reduced price of £10, making an £8 saving. There will also be other offers and giveaways, including buy-one-get-one-free kitchen caddy liners.

The final leg of the tour will take place on Sheep Street in Bicester on 20 August, again from 9am to 1pm.
